Brookline Bank Launches Free Aira Access Service to Provide
On-Demand Visual Assistance to Customers.
The Aira app will now be free to use in three Boston-area locations.
BROOKLINE, Mass, February 4, 2018. Brookline Bank announced today that it is launching free Aira Access service to enhance the customer experience for those who are blind or low vision. Free access will be available to customers at three Brookline Bank locations: 323 Walnut Street in Newtonville, 10 Langley Road in Newton Centre, and at 131 Clarendon Street in Boston.
Aira is an on-demand service that enables customers to instantly connect to a live, sighted agent who can provide visual descriptions using the camera on a smartphone or pair of Horizon smart glasses. Agents use the live video feed to view the individual’s surroundings and provide assistance completing forms, reading signage, finding teller counters, and more.
Brookline Bank is one of the first banks in the nation to offer free Aira services. According to Darryl Fess, President and CEO of Brookline Bank, “Providing customers with free access to Aira is consistent with our efforts to make our banking services accessible for people with disabilities. We’ve chosen these three locations in part due to their proximity to communities of people who are blind or low vision.”
Brookline Bank joins the Perkins School for the Blind, The Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) in providing this valuable accessibility service to people in Massachusetts. Aira Access is also available at Wegmans grocery stores, Walgreens Pharmacies, AT&T retail stores, and more than 30 airports nationwide.
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence; RA stands for Remote Assistance. When you put them together you get Aira. Aira is a service that connects blind and low-vision people to highly trained, remotely-located agents. At the touch of a button, Aira delivers instant access to information, enhancing everyday efficiency, engagement, and independence. More information at www.aira.io.
