For Immediate Release
BOSTON, MA (June 29, 2023) – Ivette Mesmar, AVP and Manager of Brookline Bank’s Wellesley Hills office, has been recognized for her community efforts by the Lions Club International, and by the City of Marlborough where she resides.
A native of Panama, Mesmar’s professional career began as a microbiologist. She eventually transitioned to the banking industry where her background in research helps her develop solutions for her banking customers. Throughout her life she’s stressed the importance of helping people. “I have a passion to help others – whether it is for the Lions, the City of Marlborough, or my customers at Brookline Bank,” said Mesmar. “Where there is a need, there is a lion, and I live by that motto.”
“Ivette is truly a leader at Brookline Bank and in the community,” said Brookline SVP and Regional Manager Rob Callahan. “She goes above and beyond to give back to her community and uplift others, including her banking customers. We applaud her accomplishments.”

Mesmar was recently elected as the District Governor for District 33K of Lions Club International. She will be formally inducted in July during the Lions Club International Annual Meeting in Boston. Mesmar has been involved with the Lions Club for more than 40 years. She is the first Latina to hold the position of District 33K Governor.
“I had the privilege and honor to induct Ivette into the Marlborough Lions in 2010. Ivette is in a select group of people who began her journey as a Leo. From the time I met her I could feel her passion and compassion,” said Joyce Hogan, Past Massachusetts Council Chairperson of the Lions Club International. “Ivette has served in many capacities over the past 13 years in District 33K. As we begin our 2023-24 Lionistic Year, the Lions of District 33K are blessed to have Ivette as our leader. Maya Angelou wrote ‘Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud’. Ivette is a rainbow.”
Mesmar was also presented with the City of Marlborough’s 2023 Humanitarian of the Year Award by Mayor Arthur Vigeant at the Mayor’s Charity Benefit on May 13th, in recognition of 20-plus years of charitable efforts in the City, her selfless dedication, service to others, compassion, and community spirit. “Ivette Mesmar has faithfully served her community over the past 20 years through her dependable and generous volunteer efforts,” said Vigeant.
Mesmar has volunteered with the Evening of Giving, the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce, and much more. Earlier this year, Mesmar received Brookline Bank’s inaugural Community Champion Award to be presented annually to Brookline Bank employees in recognition of their community involvement outside of the workplace.
