Password Protection Tips

Safe and secure Online & Mobile Banking begins with creating strong Usernames and Passwords.

Suggestions for Creating Safer Login Credentials

  • Do not use any piece of confidential information, such as your account number or your social security number, as your Username or Password.
  • Do not choose common or predictable passwords.
  • Use a sentence or phrase rather than a simple word & number combination.
  • Use a different password for your Brookline Bank login than for your other online accounts.
  • Use special characters.    + _ % @ ! $ & * ~  are allowed.
  • Do not share your Username or Password with unauthorized individuals and do not write down or store your Password in a place that is easily accessible to unauthorized individuals.
  • Change your Password on a regular basis to prevent the use of your accounts by unauthorized individuals who may have discovered it. Change it even if you only suspect that it has been disclosed or discovered.
  • Follow additional best practice recommendations from security experts such as Kreb’s On Security.

How to Change Your Username & Password

If you would like to change your Online & Mobile Banking Username and Password, do the following:

  1. Sign in to Online or Mobile Banking.  
  2. At the bottom of the Main menu click on your name.
  3. Next choose Settings.
  4. Then select Security.
  5. Within the Security area you can change all of your login options.

Rules for Username and Password

Your new Username must follow these rules:

  • It must be different than your current User ID.
  • It must be 6-25 characters in length.
  • It must contain at least 1 letter.
  • It may contain numbers.
  • It may contain any of the following special characters:   + _ % @ ! $ & * ~


Your new Password must follow these rules: 

  • It must be different than your current Password.
  • It must be 8-25 characters in length.
  • It must contain at least 1 number.
  • It must contain at least 1 letter.
  • It must contain at least 1 “special character.”
  • The following “special characters” are allowed:  + _ % @ ! $ & * ~
  • It must not match any of your 4 previous Passwords.
  • It must not match or contain your Username.
